Meet Brea Giancaterino, Trauma Therapist

I’m happy you’re here!

As a trauma therapist, I truly believe that the relationship between the therapist and client is everything. Feeling comfortable and connected to your therapist is essential. That's why I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation before we begin therapy to learn more about each other and see if we are a good fit. I hope the information on this page gives you some insight into who I am!

Experience

As a trauma therapist, I work with adult women who feel stuck, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or who are carrying the weight of past experiences that still shape how they see themselves and relate to others.

My focus is on helping you process the experiences that have kept you in cycles of self-doubt, shame, people-pleasing, or emotional shutdown. I specialize in childhood trauma, emotional abuse/neglect, and complex relationship dynamics—including those shaped by emotionally immature, narcissistic, or addicted caregivers.

I’ve supported survivors of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. My approach is grounded in EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), and I bring a calm, attuned presence so that your system feels safe enough to do the work it’s ready for.

I’m continually honored to witness women reconnect with parts of themselves they had to hide to survive, whether that’s setting boundaries without guilt, feeling more at ease in their own body, or finally trusting their inner voice.

Approach

My approach to intensive therapy is grounded in three things: emotional safety, choice, and deep, holistic healing.

IFS-informed EMDR intensives give us the time and space to slow down and listen—to your body, your protective parts, and your past. Each intensive is designed to meet you where you are while gently guiding you toward where you want to be.

You won’t be rushed, talked over, or forced into anything you’re not ready for. Instead, we’ll move at your pace, with curiosity, compassion, and intention.

What to Expect

Who I Work With

This work is for women who are ready to stop carrying what isn’t theirs. You might already have some awareness of your trauma, and maybe you’ve even been in therapy before, and something still feels stuck.

IFS-informed EMDR intensives are especially supportive if you:

  • Feel emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or reactive

  • Struggle to trust yourself or feel safe in relationships

  • Have experienced trauma

  • Want to go deeper than weekly sessions have allowed

  • Are self-aware and have coping tools, but know it’s time for more

Credentials

I know this part isn’t exciting, but it’s important for you to know that I am qualified to be your therapist! I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Child and Adolescent Graduate Certificate. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC), I bring both expertise and a compassionate, non-judgmental approach to my practice. I have been trained in EMDR, IFS, trauma-informed care, play therapy, and several other modalities. Additionally, I am a certified yoga teacher and incorporate mindfulness/somatic practices into the therapeutic space.

What Makes Me Different

I am a laid-back therapist who is ready to sit in the toughest moments with you. Whether we’re laughing together or sitting quietly in the thick of it, you can count on me to be fully present. I’ll empower you by helping you understand what is happening in your mind and body, taking time to ground with you, providing resources as you need and want. Whatever happens in the intensive, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Outside of Therapy

When I'm not in the therapy room, I love dancing, hiking, biking, cooking, baking, listening to live music, and spending time with my loved ones. I'm also a big animal lover and enjoy cuddling with my dogs (or any animal that comes my way).
